**This pet is available for a foster-to-adopt due to in-progress treatment for heartworm**
Hi, I’m Honey! I was given that name because I’m soooo sweet! I was found as a stray on the streets of Texas and my first foster family nursed me back to health. Now, I’m a beautiful, loving, happy girl. I live with a temporary foster, and I’m ready to find my furever home. Im 1-2 years old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. Im heartworm positive and currently undergoing treatment, which is a 3 part injection series. The first injection was given at the end of July, and the second and third will be back to back at the end of August. Honey is on strict exercise restriction until her treatment is complete (about 6-8 weeks after the final injection). She will be spayed after her treatment is complete as well. Pit Squad Rescue will retain formal ownership and cover all expenses during this period. Once heartworm treatment and spay are complete, the adoption will be finalized.
If you’re looking for a cuddle bug, you’ve found the right dog! Honey is a velcro dog and loves being with her humans. Whether it’s hanging out on the couch, supervising the cooking, or laying on the deck - she’s just happy to be involved. She would do best with another dog in the home to help her feel safe and comfortable. Honey is very smart and eager to please, and is already a master of sit and stay. She is also working on shake, down, heel, gentle, and leave it. She may be young, but she catches on fast and enjoys working on commands for rewards. Honey will go in her kennel when asked (for the price of a treat) and does well in there for a few hours aside from some initial whining and puppy eyes. However, when it comes to bedtime she much prefers to be in bed with her humans or nearby on the bedroom floor. She loves her lick mats, Kong, and soft toys, but nothing compares to just snuggling with her people!
