Adoption Process
Adopt Your New Best Friend
Pit Squad Rescue considers adoptive families primarily in the Minnesota area, but we're open to discussing options for those willing to travel or cover transport expenses. Our aim is to facilitate the best match between our rescues and your family's needs. Each dog is unique, with considerations including personality, temperament, energy level, compatibility with children and other pets, medical history, and more. We evaluate these factors to ensure a successful forever-home match.
Adoption Process
1. Apply
Thank you for considering bringing a dog into your home. To find the perfect pet for you, please submit an adoption application.
2. Review
Upon receiving your application, we'll carefully review it. If we have any questions or need clarification, we'll reach out to you. Please allow at least 48 hours for a response, as we are all volunteers.
3. Home Visit
After reviewing your application, a Pit Squad Rescue coordinator will arrange a home visit. This allows us to meet in person, discuss pet care, and identify any potential hazards for the dog that you may not have considered. All household members and pets must be present during the visit.
4. Finding Your Pet
Once approved, our team will start the search for your new furry friend. We'll evaluate dogs in our foster care program and discuss any specific interests you have.
We won’t set up meet and greets without an application
We won't discuss adoption details for specific dogs until you've applied
We strive to schedule home visits promptly but appreciate your patience.
All our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations before adoption.
Adoption fees range from $400 to $600 (plus tax), based on age and health.
We typically avoid placing female bullies in homes with another female bully or dominant-natured dog to ensure harmony and safety.
Extra Adoption Information
Why Do Rescues Have Adoption Fees?
In addition to basic medical care expenses listed below, the cost of the dog to our rescue may have also included: 3 months of foster care food and treats, medication for chronic conditions, heartworm treatment, heart echo, allergy injections, ear cleanings, transportation from out of state, leash and collar and other basic supplies, an ACL repair, and 2-6 weeks of behavioral training.
At adoption, dogs are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, including rabies (if applicable), distemper, bordetella, and tested negative for heartworm. They are also spayed/neutered and microchipped.
